Life at Hexagon: Featuring Hua Fang (Helen) Wei

In this blog post we are pleased to feature Hua Fang (Helen) Wei, a Project Manager in the Hexagon PPM division based in Sydney, Australia. Helen was recently awarded the Best Team Effort Award for her contribution to the MAEDA Smart Build Project

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to work at Hexagon PPM?

I have always had great passions in database technology and data science and dreamed of being a real expert in this area, so in 2020, I gave up my management role in Eli Lilly and joined Intergraph PPM ( Now Hexagon PPM) China Capability Center (CCC), hoping to be a pure data developer, data modeler and researcher. However because of Hexagon corporation strategy change, CCC was later no further developed, and I was internally transferred to Australia PPM service and support team in 2012, working as a Database Administrator.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job?

I feel lucky that I have an occupation that I really enjoy. As a DBA, I enjoy database technology, especially the database performance tuning. It’s always exciting to see that a slow running query suddenly runs fast after my tuning. As a project manager, I enjoy the work of planning, organising, coordination, and controlling of the project. It’s a great satisfaction to see a project finally get delivered after the hard workings of the whole project team.

What did it mean to you to win the Best Team Effort Award this year?

This Best Team Effort Award belongs to the whole project team. Everyone involved in this project has done their best, intelligently and diligently. Team-working has truly played a key role in the project. The culture of team-working is a great fortune of our company and I love this culture.

What would you like to achieve next, professionally or personally?

I am still passionate in data science. I hope in the future, I can combine my knowledge in this area with company’s development strategy, in areas of data analysis, big data, machine learning, AI, and so on.

In your opinion what makes Hexagon a great place to work?

First it’s the People – during the project execution, I feel more and more that our company have the greatest employees in every area. And then for me it’s the Culture which inspires team-work and cooperation. It’s the combination of these two points that makes Hexagon a great company and a great place to work.
