After hosting 956 attendees across three cities (500 of those in Seoul alone – an attendance record for Asia-Pacific), we find ourselves at the end of another successful event season for . This year, our famous HxGN LOCAL PPM User Conferences made stops in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Seoul, Korea; and Yokohama,Japan.
Although the industry drivers vary from country to country within the region, one theme emerged as the hot topic of the moment. Our customers were all keen to discuss digital transformation –specifically, how can Hexagon PPM help take both CapEx projects and operating facilities from the old-style analogue or paper-based methodologies to hyper-productive, fully digitized operations ready to leverage exciting emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, and even extended reality?
PPM’s local and visiting executives and other experts were happy to share our vision of a digital future for our customers in 2018 and beyond. We’ve identified three ways we can support our customers on their digital transformation journey.
1. The power of the Hexagon portfolio. Intergraph PP&M became Hexagon PPM in June 2017, and this closer alignment with our parent company has already revealed some pretty amazing benefits. Our customers in Korea were treated to a powerful opening keynote session featuring PPM President Mattias Stenberg (pictured above), who spoke about the depth and breadth of the Hexagon portfolio, which spans industries such as forestry, agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
Imagine if you could take the learnings from ALL of these industries and apply them to energy and construction. The road to digital transformation is certainly an easier one when you can apply lessons learned in other industries that have gone before you! In his keynote, our leader here in Asia-Pacific, Franz Kufner, highlighted some possible applications of technologies from other Hexagon divisions on a typical processing plant. A great example was using drones to carry out remote inspections (Hexagon Agriculture already has the technology to conduct aerial land sweeps). The impact on worker health and safety could be enormous.
2. We’ve invested in innovation so you don’t have to. We all understand that industry-wide innovation is not an option; it’s essential for our long-term future. On the other hand, true innovation requires a significant investment of time and resources, which isn’t an option for many customers. So we’ve done the work for you. As Franz told our audience in Kuala Lumpur, between 10 and 12 percent of Hexagon’s net sales is reinvested into research and development in any given year, and we have more than 3,400 employees dedicated to this area alone.
This is what Franz had to say about the Hexagon Innovation Hub, which is at the heart of our innovation strategy: “The focus is capitalizing on expert insights and fueling disruptive, breakthrough innovation across our company … this is an unprecedented opportunity for our customers to innovate faster and more effectively.”
Our experts in the Hub are working with emerging technologies such as the cloud, big data, extended reality, and advanced analytics to develop solutions that will push the boundaries of productivity for our customers across all industries. The future looks very promising, indeed!
3. Connectivity platforms and mobile apps are essential. Did you hear that Hexagon purchased a company called Catavolt back in May 2017? It’s a small company but BIG news for our customers looking to take their first steps towards digitizing organizational processes. Catavolt’s end-to-end platform for mobile application development and delivery, secure cloud orchestration, and edge data processing and analytics is already helping to advance HxGN SMART Convergence, our company-wide digital transformationplatform.
We were honored to have Catavolt CEO George Mashini join the conference tour in Korea, where he met with some of our key customers to discuss the possibilities of the Catavolt platform on their road to digital transformation. You’re going to hear a lot more about this in the months to come!
